Alda an important part of improved safety culture at sea

Pálmi Gauti Hjörleifsson, captain of Kaldbakur EA for Samherji, recently discussed maritime safety in an interesting interview. He specifically highlights how safety management has been a major boost for the industry, noting the introduction of various new tools both on board and ashore, including the Alda app, which provides greater accountability for both crews and fishing companies.
In his interview with Fiskifréttir, Pálmi Gauti reflected on his career at sea, which spans over 30 years. He noted that the safety mindset among fishermen has undergone a radical transformation during this time, and that safety on board has improved tremendously in recent years. "Many steps have been taken regarding safety over the years, and they have all been in a very positive direction," says Pálmi Gauti.
At Alda, we are extremely proud to play a part in this positive development. Pálmi Gauti is one of Samherji’s most experienced captains and serves as the vice-chairman of the board of the Icelandic Captains' Association. It is highly significant for us to hear from such an experienced mariner that digital tools like the Alda app make a real difference at sea - simplifying safety management for both crews and fishing companies alike.
Pálmi Gauti’s story serves as a good reminder of how far safety culture among fishermen has come over the past few decades, while also encouraging us to continue developing the equipment and tools that enable crews to work safely - so that everyone returns home safely.
