Partnership Between Alda and Iceland Responsible Fisheries

Alda Safety and Iceland Responsible Fisheries have signed a partnership agreement that makes it easier for fishing companies to demonstrate, using data from daily operations, that the working conditions, rights, and safety of their crews meet the requirements of the international FISH Standard for Crew.
The two parties have collaborated on developing Alda into a comprehensive management system based on this standard, leveraging Alda’s digital solution, which is already in use by many of the country’s largest fishing companies.
Through this partnership, Iceland Responsible Fisheries gains a centralized overview of the status of its member companies. This will support internal audits conducted by the companies, overseen by Sigrid Merino, Managing Director of Iceland Responsible Fisheries. Furthermore, member companies of Iceland Responsible Fisheries will receive an electronic assessment of their safety management systems and implementation before the end of the year.
"Demonstrating compliance with the standard aboard 134 vessels using only paper-based documentation is a significant challenge," says Friðrik Friðriksson, Chairman of the Board of Iceland Responsible Fisheries. With digital data from Alda, this process becomes simpler and more reliable - both for fishing companies and for the Iceland Responsible Fisheries certification body itself.
The Icelandic Transport Authority has approved Alda as a digital safety management system for fishing vessels and furthermore, this collaboration is part of the preparations for incorporating the International Labour Organization’s Work in Fishing Convention (ILO 188) into Icelandic law - a process expected to take effect in late 2027.
We warmly welcome this partnership, which marks a significant milestone and a major step forward in maintaining the certification of Icelandic fishing companies regarding working conditions and the safety of crew members on board fishing vessels.
